The collection consists of three letters to Mrs. Holliday, including: April 1874, thanking her for an invitation extended to himself and Miss Waugh and apologizing for the delay in replying; 28 Jan. 1880, expressing admiration for her needlework, but suggesting it is too singular to be widely appreciated; 5 Aug. 1890, a letter of introduction for Mr. A. Symons, who is lodging near her, with encouragement to extend him her family's hospitality.

William Holman Hunt was an English artist and painter. Despite his father's objections, he sought a career as an artist, and studied art at the Royal Academy, where he met Millais and Rossetti; the three of them co-founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Hunt's paintings are richly colored and highly detailed; many have religious or moralistic connotations. He made several journeys to the Middle East, and painted scenes of Jerusalem.
